Five views selected from those that I have painted of the mountains around Alpe d'Huez, using soft pastels. The top three were painted in the studio from photos. The lower two were painted on site - the first tucked just inside the balcony of a chalet, sheltering from the heavy rainstorm, but the second was painted plein air at the lake, one of a series painted during a holiday there in August 2009. For this painting, I cycled up to the lake with my pastel boxes, easel, and other equipment on my back.
