A couple of pleins airs watercolours from the Isle of Wight. The view of Freshwater Bay looks south east, along 'the Back of the Wight', the justly famous south-west coast. Osborne House, East Cowes, was the holiday retreat for Queen Victoria and her family; Swiss Cottage was her children's residence, and like the main house has magnificent gardens. Each is painted using 'pure' technique, with transparent colours, and no gouache or bodycolour.
